When the Holidays Don’t Feel Like the Holidays
It’s been a difficult year. For some, it’s been harsh and unforgiving. I know that my family has experienced great loss this year and that you too might be dealing with something very heavy.
There are times when “the holidays” feel like a bit of a nightmare and all you want to do is hide away from the world.
Here are 4 simple tips that might help you cope:
1. Reach Out. I know this is probably the last thing you feel like doing right now but it’s critical. Going through tough times is hard enough, but going through them alone is torture. If you don’t have anyone you can or want to reach out to, call a professional.
2. Get Outside. Every. Damn. Day. This is so important... During daylight hours ideally. Just getting into the fresh air and going for a walk can do wonders for your mood, your sleep cycle, your creativity, etc.
3. Limit the substances. I know. It’s so hard to give up the thing that numbs the pain, but it’s a slippery slope in the wrong direction.
4. One thing for you & One thing for them. Do something for yourself every day. Whatever brings you pleasure, so long as it’s safe and effective. And then do something great for someone else. This makes their day and it will make yours too. It’s all about human connection here... that’s what we’re built on!
I want to wish you the very best for this holiday season.
Sending you light and love ❤️
